According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, “Coronaviruses (CoV) have been identified as human pathogens since the 1960’s. Coronaviruses infect humans and many other vertebrates . Illness in humans is mostly respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, however symptoms can range from the common cold to more severe lower respiratory infections such as pneumonia. A broad range of coronaviruses are found in bats, which might play a crucial role in the virus evolution of alpha– and betacoronavirus lineages in particular. However, other animal species can also act as an intermediate host and animal reservoir.
Zoonotic coronaviruses have emerged in recent years to cause human outbreaks, such as the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003 and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) since 2012.”
- Fact 1: A news source came out and confirmed that researchers from Wuhan have already predicted the outbreak last 2019 one year before the virus actually happened, The name of the research, “Bat Coronavirus in China”. This means that the people from Wuhan, China already knew what was coming yet, no action have surfaced and the prediction was hidden, almost like how the start of the NCOV was kept a secret from the media, but was revealed by a heroic doctor who actually died from being infected himself.
- Fact 2: Li Wenliang, the heroic doctor mentioned above, was punished for being a ‘whistleblower’ who sounded the alarm for everyone. His statement before he passed was a message for society; “I think a healthy society should not only have one kind of voice.” He got arrested right after a screenshot of his message to his University mates went viral, with his name in plain sight.
- Fact 3: Recently, a group of researchers have found out that ‘remdesivir’ stopped the virus from replicating. Also, ‘chloroquine’- an approved and widely used anti-malarial and autoimmune disease drug- was also effective in stopping the virus from spreading in human cells. What’s more encouraging, is that both drugs were effective at low concentrations and neither were toxic to human cells.
- Fact 4: Packages, objects, etc. from Wuhan, China do not contract the NCOV virus. According to WHO, people receiving posts, etc. from China are not at risk of catching the new coronavirus. The WHO knows from previous analysis that the said virus do not survive long on objects, such as letters, or packages.
- Fact 5: Pets are not likely to be part of the outbreak. WHO says that, “at present, there is no evidence that companion/ pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the new coronavirus.”
